AMT’s Annual Community Clean-Up

In a rite of spring, AM Transport employees gathered April 21 at Musgrove Park for the company’s annual Community Clean-Up Day.

With the temperature in the 40s, under sunny skies, volunteers Joel Carey, who organizes the event, Michael McKinney, David Abell, Jason Doris, Justin Hatten, Heath Houchin, Erik Jensen, Chad Martin, Rob McClain, Jordan Pottorff, Sam Rodgers and Patrick Umfleet separated into three groups to trim trees and shrubs, pull weeds and replace mulch .

At AM Transport, one of our core values is commitment, which was on display as the group began the two-and-a-half hour landscaping project at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday utilizing rakes, hedge trimmers, shovels, a weed eater, leaf blower and wheelbarrow.

“This year’s work was made a bit easier by our major effort last year to entirely peel back several years of mulch all the way to the dirt, then installing a new fabric barrier and entirely new mulch,” Carey said.

“This allowed us to remove a few undesirable elements that were hard to maintain, which in turn allowed us to add a few new plantings last year. I hope to continue addition of new plants with the sage advice of our AMT green thumbs. We also discussed adding a small decorative tree or two in conjunction with the Tree Board.”

City of Olney provided 100 bags of red mulch that was spread in the flower beds around Musgrove Aquatic Center.

“Parks Supervisor Frank Bradley has been really helpful with our Musgrove work over the years, providing pretty much any materials and assistance we’ve requested, so that is much appreciated,” Carey said.

The AM Transport crew will volunteer their time each Wednesday from May through August doing landscape maintenance at Musgrove Park.

“All in all, I think the Musgrove project provides the dual satisfaction of getting AMT out of the office as a group for a fun event that applies our excellent teamwork skills toward service to the community, and the end result of a high-traffic area of the park remaining attractive and well-maintained throughout the season,” Carey said.

Community is another core value as AM Transport believes that giving back is the right thing to do.
