COVID-19 Update: How are you doing?

How are you doing?

Stop reading for a minute and think about the question because we really do want to know how you are doing.

In fact, we hope you’ll drop us a line, comment below, check in on our Facebook page, or even give us a call. While most of us are working from home these days, you can still reach us 24/7/365 days a year. And like you, we’re all feeling a bit disconnected from each other and from our communities.

That’s why we’re using this blog post to check in with our customers and carriers. You see, we’re pretty sure that you, like most of us, are also feeling disconnected and out of sorts. We get it. And now more than ever, we have to stick together, reach out, make sure we’re all doing okay. So again, please check in.

Where are you getting most of your information these days?

Several online subscription newspapers have taken down their paywalls in order to provide COVID-19 information for free.

The New York Times: The Coronavirus Outbreak

The Washington Post: Coronavirus

The Wall Street Journal: The Coronavirus Crisis

And there are some great magazines and journals doing the same.

Science Magazine: Coronavirus: Research, Commentary, and News

The Atlantic: What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus

Time Magazine is offering a free newsletter: The Coronavirus Brief

For industry news you can check out these publications.

FreightWaves: Coronavirus

Transport Topics: Coronavirus

In Illinois, the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association continues to be a great source for information about COVID-19 in Illinois.

What’s going on with us?

Right now in Illinois, Governor Pritzker has extended our stay-at-home order until April 30. That is also the Federal government’s recommendation.

AM Transport is located in southern Illinois, and as of yesterday, the number of COVID-19 cases in our and our surrounding areas has been relatively low. We’d like to believe it will stay that way, but it’s likely that we’ll see more cases as time goes on.

This social distancing stuff is hard. Because we are working from home, we miss seeing each other. We’re a close-knit group, and it’s been a while since we cracked a couple of beers after work to talk about our days. It’s hard to believe things have changed so thoroughly in just a few weeks. Of course, we are lucky that we have the capability to work from home, to continue providing service to manufacturers and distributors of essential goods. And we try not to forget that.

How are you doing with the whole mask-when-you-go-out recommendation? It’s not the easiest thing is it? Especially if you are in locations where others are NOT wearing a mask. Especially when it’s so beautiful out there. Listen, we don’t like it either, but we are determined to do our part to protect not just our own families, but the folks in our small community who are most vulnerable. If wearing a mask helps, we’re glad to put one on. And don’t worry if you don’t sew. Check out this DIY mask video for making masks out of things you might have at home.

Stay in touch.

Here at AMT, we’re determined to remember that we’re all in this together. Please give us a call if you have any questions about our continued service, if you have any essential freight to move, or if you just want to talk a bit. We’re still here. In fact, we’re not going anywhere!
