Meet the Team: Joel Carey, CTB
AM Transport is celebrating its 30th year in the transportation industry. And we have a few people who have worked here almost as long. Joel Carey, who’s been with AMT for 16 years, is one of them. Quiet, with a dry sense of humor, Joel took a little time this week to answer “Meet the Team” questions.
What music do you listen to when you’re in the car?
The radio is generally set to NPR, but when music is required usually Broadway soundtracks or Classical–really loud.
If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be?
What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received and/or given?
The best received was a really sweet acoustic bass guitar. And last year, I gave my wife and daughter tix to see Hamilton–was a big hit!
How long have you been in transportation?
I’ve been in transportation since starting with AM Transport 16 years ago. I was job hunting in St. Louis and came across an ad for a logistics job in Olney, IL. Got job offers the same day in Olney and St. Louis, and small city vs. big city was an easy choice for me.
What do you do at AM Transport?
Carrier compliance, claims processing, and LTL/Intermodal.
What apps, gadgets, etc. can you not live without at work?
A fast and reliable smartphone, so anywhere is my desk.
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you recently?
A co-worker posted a frightening “separated-at-birth” photo on the company Glip. It was me and one of them “perfessnil rasslers” who shall remain nameless. Needless to say, I’m mortified by the similarity and general comparison, but it was highly amusing nonetheless.
I’m married with one teenage daughter.
If someone gifted you an elephant, what would you do with it?
Definitely build an enclosure and incorporate it into the AM Transport Beer Garden.
Any thoughts on garden gnomes?
Beer or Wine: Diet Coke–lots of it!
Podcast: Snap Judgement and The Moth
Music: I drive my family nuts listening to Cirque Du Soleil soundtracks.
Skittles or M&Ms: Skittles are the garden gnomes of candy. (see above)
Power Ranger: Yellow
What are you currently reading or what do you recommend?
I’m perhaps an over-avid news reader. The Smartnews app is a great single-source to take in a ton of information from all perspectives in short or long reads.
What’s your superpower?
Amazing repair of things I know nothing about.
How do you recharge?
A short spell of quiet time alone in a darkened room.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
