Getting to know Laine and Derek

We’ve had some crazy weather the past couple of weeks, but as we all know, the transportation of freight never stops. And the talented men and women who make sure your freight is delivered without hassles and on-time are hard at work, even when the snow is a couple of feet high and coming down at a good clip.

It just seems like a good time to get to know Laine Slover and Derek Walker–our two newest team members–a little better.  Laine started at AMT in late October and Derek came on board in early November.

If you had your own talk show, who would be your first guest, and why?

Laine:  Pat McAfee because he just seems like a very outgoing and funny person.

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would that meal be?

Derek:  Eggs of some sort because it’s about the only thing I eat every day anyway.

Laine:  Chicken, sweet potato, and rice. It’s simple, and I never get tired of it.

Coffee or tea?

Laine:  I love coffee, but sweet tea is something I couldn’t give up!

Derek:  Worst question on the list, coffee of course! Tea is great, but just shouldn’t ever be compared to black liquid gold.

Would you rather be the funniest or the smartest person in the room?

Derek:  Funny is overrated.

Laine:  I would rather be the funniest. I like to make people laugh. I was always told that if you’re the smartest person in the room, then you’re not around the right people.

If you were a superhero, what would your name be, and what superpower would you have?

Laine:  The Slov (nickname given to me by some Army buddies). I would like to have the Green Lantern’s ring.

Which actor would you like to play you in the story of your life?

Laine:  Leonardo DiCaprio

Derek:  Choosing not to answer this because of the flak I’d get from Hannah.

If you could go back in time and pay more attention to any class in high school, which class would you choose?

Derek:  Spanish

Laine:  Mine would also be Spanish.

What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up?

Laine:  “It’s time to get up already?!” Then I roll over and text my girlfriend good morning.

Derek:  My dog Kobe! He’s hungry a lot.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

Laine:  I would say I’m mostly an extrovert; there are times I’m an introvert though. Being an extrovert is a help because talking to new people isn’t difficult for me.

Derek:  Introvert. It’s only a hindrance in a world that expects everyone to be extroverted . . .

What emoji do you use the most?

Laine: The crying/laughing emoji.

What did you do before working at AM Transport?

Derek:  All things coffee at Marquis Beverage!

Laine:  I was a scout in the Army.

Is there anything in particular about your previous experience that has been helpful in logistics?

Laine:  Communication may be the main thing. Communication and relaying accurate information in both the military and logistics is very important.

What is the most surprising thing about this job?

Derek:  If my answer wasn’t Moose, each and every day, I’d be a liar.

Laine:  I would have to agree with Derek on this one.

When was the last time you laughed at work, and why?

Laine: I can’t think of a day when I haven’t laughed since I’ve been working here.
