The Best Place to Work
We’re not fancy!
32 years ago, Avery and Mary Jo McKinney started AM Transport Services in a small cabin on Vernor Lake located just north of Olney, Illinois. They shared a desk, had one telephone, a window air conditioner that didn’t work, and a desire to help manufacturers find the best trucks to pick-up and deliver their freight.
It was only a year or two before that small office held two and then three desks. And soon, AM Transport moved out of the cabin and into a bigger office, and a few years later a bigger office, and a few years after that an even bigger office–where we are located today at 1903 Miller Drive.
A Forbes Small Giant
In 2020, AM Transport Services was announced one of Forbes’ Small Giants–an annual list of the top 25 small businesses in the United States. It’s a pretty cool designation, and we’re proud.
When Avery and Mary Jo started this business, they had no idea their dream would become one of the best places to work–not only in Richland County, but in the entire midwest.
What’s the secret?
Well, it’s not a secret. We work hard to make sure the manufacturers and carriers we match up get the best service available in the logistics industry. To do that, we spend a lot of time getting to know them and their businesses, and this is exciting, interesting, and meaningful work. Building strong relationships is at the heart of what we do, and we’re good at it. You see, we don’t see logistics as a zero-sum game. We don’t succeed unless everyone succeeds. It’s the best way to do business.
But there’s so much more. It’s actually fun to work at AM Transport Services. The job is fast-paced and exciting and the environment is cool from our open concept office to the popcorn machine that’s always popping the best corn in town. Out back, there’s a beer garden where we like to gather after hours for live music and a few beers during the warmer months.
And we like to get together away from the office too. Our annual Christmas party is a highlight of every year and our annual golf outing is always a good time. We also go to hockey games, hold bags tournaments, and sometimes we even bike to work together. And we’re community-minded to boot. Many of our team members coach basketball, track, and little league teams. We sponsor the highschool CEO program and also 5th block.
That brings me to what really makes working at AM Transport special. It’s the people. Yes, we have a great culture. Yes, we have tons of fun. Yes, we have popcorn and cookouts and we’re community and family-oriented, but the number one reason AMT is a great place to work is:
And we’re always looking for more good people to join our team. So if you are interested in a fast-paced and fun career where you have the opportunity to work with the best folks in Richland County day in and day out, check out our careers page. You won’t be sorry.
