Does your freight broker have these habits?

Seven Habits for On-Time Delivery and Pickup of Your Freight

You’ve heard of Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, right? First published in 1990, Stephen Covey’s groundbreaking book has sold over 40  million copies, and it’s still going strong. The habits have been adapted for graduates, people on the go, families, kids, and teens. If you go to the Franklin Covey website, you’ll also find workbooks, guided journals, and other resources to help you cultivate these seven habits.

So what are the seven habits?

Habit 1: Be proactive

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Habit 4: Think Win/Win

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood

Habit 6: Synergize

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

The Seven Habits at AM Transport

A couple of years ago, our CEO, David Abell, read The 7 Habits. He suggested that these habits are very relevant to the way we do business here at AM Transport Services. And he was right. We wrote a blog post that focused on the seven habits and how they translate to an exceptional logistics experience for manufacturers, distributors, and the carriers who haul their freight.

But things are always changing in the transportation industry. The last couple of years have been crazy. The Covid-19 pandemic, changing government regulations, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and climate change have all contributed to near-constant disruption, elevated rates, backlogs at warehousing facilities, and limited truck capacity. And while it appears that we are in a somewhat calmer landscape at this writing, the truth is in the transportation industry disruption is always just around the corner.

Whether you’ve got freight to move (or receive) or you’re the folks with the trucks, the best thing you can do to weather this sort of disruption is to work with logistics partners who keep the wheels rolling. Here at AM Transport Services, we’ve been helping folks like you for 33 years and counting. By practicing the seven habits, we ensure reliability and consistency for the manufacturers, distributors, and carriers we work with.

Being proactive means that we don’t just book loads and wait for them to deliver. Instead, we are in constant communication with everyone along the supply chain to ensure freight is both picked up and delivered on-time. We anticipate and get in front of any problems because we’ve been doing this for over 30 years, and we know how it works.

What does it mean to begin with the end in mind and to put first things first? Here at AM Transport, we know what a good logistics experience looks and feels like. Your end-game (the on-time delivery of your freight) is where we begin. We start with important questions–do you need special equipment? What is the pickup or delivery window? Is your freight temperature sensitive? By asking these questions we’re practicing the habit of seeking first to understand and ensuring consistent and reliable delivery of your freight day in and day out.

Logistics isn’t an end-sum game, but rather a win/win situation. Here at AM Transport Services, we work with the best small to midsize carriers in the midwest. They’re small, service-oriented companies with low driver turnover, long business histories, and excellent relationships. And they want to work with manufacturers and distributors like you.

When we connect you with these small carriers, everyone wins. The carriers get the opportunity to move excellent freight, and you get to work with carriers you’d never find on your own.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: here at AMT we’re better together than we are alone. Our logistics team consists of experts who collaborate, communicate, and cooperate. Yes, you’ll get a single point of contact when you work with us, but you’ll also benefit from the redundancy of a team that works together. When something goes wrong, everyone pitches in. You can’t beat this kind of synergy!

Manufacturers, distributors, and carriers who work with AMT are sharpening the saw. You gain efficiency and effectiveness with our team. You’ll find you’ll spend less time sourcing carriers, chasing trucks, and rebooking loads and more time doing work that is important to you. And we’re available 24/7/365 days a year.

Good habits create excellent freight brokers!
