Cool Stuff: Recommendations from the team at AMT

4 minute read

Christmas is less than two weeks away. The ugly sweater group at AM Transport loves the holiday season as you can tell by our colorful Christmas attire in the picture above. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite things from 2019.

If you’re still looking for a Christmas gift, look no further. If you’re looking for a cool restaurant to hit before the end of the year, we’ve got you covered. If you’re looking for an adventure to round out an already adventurous 2019, we have a few ideas for that too. And of course, we’ve got a few beverage recommendations.

Check out some of our favorites, and if you’ve got a recommendation for us, please leave it in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.

Joe

Disney+ has The Mandalorian series that I enjoy, and more specifically Baby Yoda.

We took a family vacation to Toronto this year. We had a great time walking along the beaches of Lake Ontario and exploring the nearby islands. This is a great way to introduce your kids to culture and new things without spending an arm and a leg on airfare.

Colby

The Columbia Factory Outlet Store in Henderson, KY. You must have a pass to shop at this outlet store, but it’s worth getting one. They have great prices on Mountain Hardwear, Prana, Sorel, and Columbia.

Stables Steakhouse in Terre Haute, IN. This restaurant offers the best steaks around. They are aged for 29 days. If you’re looking for a place with a great atmosphere and some of the best food you can find, check them out.

Olney City Park Light Display, in Olney, IL. It’s a tradition in our family to run the kids through here as often as possible. If you haven’t been this year, you’ll want to see the new lights that have been added.

Costco, Evansville, IN. You can enter Costco and spend several hours just looking around. One of my favorite stops in Evansville.

Pangea Kitchen, Evansville, IN. A couple of us from work visited Pangea last month. They offer authentic Neapolitan pizza. It was fantastic.

Dallas

I recommend checking out Belgian Style witbier for people who aren’t big fans of IPAs but need more flavor than a Bush Latte.

Rob

Shangy’s The Beer Authority store in Emmaus, PA. I’ve never seen so much beer in one place. It brought me to tears.

Chad

I finally made the trip to New York this year. I definitely recommend going. You can experience a lot of different cultures in one place and there are plenty of historic sites to see. Plus, there’s a lot of good pizza. My favorite places were Lil Gio’s and Joe’s in Brooklyn.

Bridgett

My favorite books this year were:

Fiction: Three Ways to Disappear by Katy Yocom–a book about tigers, family, love, and home.

Nonfiction: Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant by Roz Chast. This is a graphic memoir, and it’s funny and wise.

Poetry: Good Bones by Maggie Smith–whether or not you like poetry, you’ll love this volume of poems.

My favorite internet order was Usual Wines. From the hearty 6oz pour to the cool single serving wine bottles and the deliciousness in each sip, this is the best thing I ordered all year! I tried the rosé and the red. They were both fantastic.

The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead is an incredible story about two boys living through terrible circumstances. If it doesn’t make you think, I don’t know what will.

When you work at AMT, you’re part of a rare group of individuals who go out of their way to try the best beers out there. Sip of Sunshine is a hazy IPA that you’ll want to drink all day until you realize you’re not functioning all that well. Founders Brewing CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) is the 13th ranked beer on Beer Advocate, and I currently have it in my fridge. It’s become a Christmas tradition for me to drink one of my favorites to start the day–and this year is going to be special (thanks for the beer, Jason). Tree House Brewing Co. is one of the highest-rated and respected breweries in the country. Unfortunately, its location in Charlton, MA makes it all but impossible to get in Southern Illinois. Luckily enough, Jesse Baker took a trip that way and graciously gave me a JJjuliusss to try. It didn’t disappoint. Sidenote: Jesse waited two hours to get inside the brewery.

Tyler Childers and Kacey Musgraves had years to remember. Though their styles are different, their creativity and sense of music allowed them to produce two incredible albums. I’m not a modern day country fan, but these two artists consistently gave me the chills.

So there you have it. A bunch of great recommendations from the AMT team. Let us know what you think!
