Meet the Team: Jesse Baker, CTB
3 minute read
The team at AM Transport Services works together to provide our customers and our carriers with the best logistics experience possible. Even when most of the team is working from home, we’re connected, flexible, and ready. For the past several months, we’ve been highlighting a team member every couple of weeks. This week it’s Jesse Baker. Jesse has been in logistics and with AMT for 6 years.
Podcast: Hardcore History
Sports team: Chicago Cubs
Music: Would have to be rock. I’m really enjoying the band Badflower right now.
Show: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There are other great shows, but it’s by far the most rewatchable.
Performer: Ilan Rubin
Beer: We went to Boulevard Brewing in KC and had a special edition called The Pitch. Was amazing.
Skittles or M&Ms: Red or purple Skittles. Could do without the rest.
Power Ranger: Tommy (both Green and White). That show was my go-to before daycare along with Scooby Doo.
What do you do think about when you’re alone in the car?
In the car, I usually don’t think much. Just try and drum along with the song playing on the radio.
If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be?
Sasquatch. Remote, left alone by most of the world. And the people who do come after are crazy.
What’s the best Christmas gift you ever received or gave?
In 1994, I received the Shredder Dome for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Wish I still had that. The best gift I ever gave would have to be a Thomas Kinkade painting for my mom.
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you recently?
Since I’ve been pretty well isolated, nothing too funny has happened. Would probably have to be Mary telling Alexa to stop playing rain sounds when it was actually raining outside.
If someone gifted you an elephant, what would you do with it?
Ask them to take it back and release it. If I was stuck with it, I’d try and teach it to play golf, so I could have someone I could hopefully play with and beat.
What are your current thoughts concerning garden gnomes?
Actually there is a gnome village right off the highway by the entrance to my road. They’ve given good protection, so I tend to stay on their good side.
How long have you been in transportation and how did you end up working at AMT?
I’ve been in transportation for 6 years now. I was living in Georgia right after college for a couple of years, and I decided to come back home. Was lucky enough that AMT was hiring. I came in somewhat blind.
What do you do at AMT?
Systems implementation. I make sure that everything we work on is optimal and put in the improvements.
What apps, gadgets, etc. can you not live without at work?
Dell Boomi, Salesforce, Mailparser. I also love my mouse and keyboard, and my new curved monitor. It really helps having good hardware.
What’s your superpower?
Realistically–it’s playing cards. I’ve always been good at any card game. If I could have any superpower? I’d definitely want the ability to teleport.
What are you currently reading and what book would you recommend?
I’m currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman. And I strongly recommend Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders.
How do you recharge after a long week?
I love to put on some headphones and hop on the drumset and play with a nice mix of music.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t go fishin’ for something that ain’t in the water.”
