The team at AMT is committed to building and adding value to Richland County, Illinois. We sponsor scholarships, volunteer in a variety of programs, participate in community events, with a focus on providing business and financial assistance and expertise to the youth of our community.
AM Transport began participating in this project with our founder, Avery McKinney, 25 years ago. He partnered up with a local grocery store and some fellow community members to help feed families in the community at Christmas time. 25 years later we are still doing the same project. The groceries go out to feed 75 families throughout Richland County, so next year we will have fed over 2,000 families in need.
Community Clean-up Day
Community Clean-up Day is one of AMT’s favorite ways to help out the community. Employees volunteer their time to clean up an area of the town, such as the Musgrove Aquatic Center. We pull weeds, clear brush, plant flowers, and whatever TLC is necessary. This year we have replaced over 150 bags of mulch. Multiply that by the 11 years we have been participating in this program, and that is a lot of mulch!
Soccer Team Sponsorship
AM Transport sponsored the 2nd/3rd grade soccer team, and they were the 2015 Season Tournament Champions. We were very proud to see their hard work, and their fun, pay off. Good luck to the AM Transport team this year!
Together We Play Park – Sponsorship
The Together We Play Park is a new playground that is completely accessible to children with disabilities. The idea came from a citizen who was concerned when her son was left behind on playground trips due to inaccessible equipment. The project quickly gained community support, which helped the committee raise over $300,000. A.M. Transport made a $5,000 donation to Together We Play Park to help purchase supplies and equipment.
Together We Play Park - Building
In addition to the donation, a number of AMT employees donated their time and participated in the assembly of the playground equipment. They worked in shifts over the week that it took to complete the installation, alongside the committee and other community volunteers. Like any of the volunteer projects that A.M. Transport employees participate in, there was plenty of laughter despite some fairly intense work.
5th Block Christmas Recording Session
The 5th Block program is geared towards providing experiences, skills, and a positive environment and positive role models for 6-8th grade students. The program also focuses on providing activities that help with college and career readiness, community service, and work ethic and job skills. As a special treat for the end of the year, AMT’s Connor Dixon brought in his recording equipment to record a holiday album with the students.
5th Block “Farmageddon” Concert
There are many people here at AMT that love music, both listening and playing. So we are always happy to share this hobby whenever we get a chance. AMT’s Joel, Andrew, Connor, and Jessica created the band “Farmageddon” to play concerts for the students throughout the year. Tunes ranged from oldies but goodies such as Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, and Janis Joplin, to some current hits from Adele, The Black Keys, and The Weeknd.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest and oldest business student organization in the world. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. AM Transport’s Andrew Gulovsen and Michael McKinney have presented to the local FBLA chapter on topics such as entrepreneurship, soft skills, and interviewing.
R2BQ Traveling Grill
One thing we can’t do enough is say “thank you” to the people that help us continue to operate every day. So what did we do? We combined two of our favorite things in order to show our appreciation: food and fun! R2BQ is our mobile grilling machine, and we have taken it to community events, safety days, and company cookouts to show our appreciation and share a little joy along the way –and maybe even some jalapeño bacon.
