Who’s More Important–Customer or Carrier?

Scientist, astronomer, and astrophysicist Carl Sagan once famously said, “There’s no such thing as a dumb question.”

We agree. But we’re not talking about any questions. We’re talking about questions you can ask freight brokers, questions that will help you choose the best logistics partner.

Because believe us, there are some bad answers out there.  But how do you know a good answer from a bad one? Especially when you’re partnering with and dealing with folks in the logistics industry. You probably don’t have time to stay up to date on the three Ts of transportation: technology, terminology, and trucks.

Let’s take a look at a simple question you can ask potential transportation partners.

Who’s more important, the customer or the carrier?

You might not believe it, but the answer is neither.

Here’s how we look at it.

Good customers have consistent freight, excellent communication skills, and treat carriers well. We love our customers, and it shows in the length of our partnerships. We’ve been doing business with some of them over 20 years. When you work with AM Transport Services, you get the full power of our expertise, our state-of-the art technology, and our 24/7 customer service. We’re proud of relationships we build with customers–it’s part of our mission, to get to know you and your business, to make finding trucks, booking loads, and hauling freight something you don’t have to worry about. Customers are always first at AM Transport Services.

But so are carriers.

Good carriers are the lifeblood of the trucking industry. And that’s why our carriers are equal partners on the team that includes customers and AMT professionals. We partner with a core group of small to midsize carriers. And we know we’re lucky to work with the best. That’s why we’re available to drivers and dispatch 24/7. That’s why we always pay detention. And what do we get in return? Reliable, consistent carriers who are on-time at pickup and delivery and trust us with their GPS tracking.

If you’re a shipper looking for a third-party logistics (3PL) provider, don’t be swayed by a bad answer tailored to get your business. If a freight broker tells you that the customer is more important than the carrier, they’re either lying or they’re working with some shady carriers. Either way, you deserve better.

If you’ve got difficult freight to move, give us a call. We’d love to chat about how the team at AM Transport Services can help.
